DIY Monogram Mug

We are so excited to be hosting the lovely Alysha Lee from Alysha Lee Creative  here on our blog today!  If you're not already following her, you should.  She has some of the cutest fashion, recipe, daily life & DIY posts on her lovely blog!  But some of our favorite posts are her frequent visits to one of our favorite coffee shops, 8th Street Coffee House in Wichita Falls, TX.  Once upon a time, all three sisters lived in the Falls, so seeing the locations of Alysha's photo-shoots are like taking a mini vacation to the past and we love it!  Knowing how much we love coffee, Alysha came up with the idea to share a super cute (& super easy!) DIY monogram mug for her guest post.  We can't wait to make our own!  Enjoy!

Today, I’m walking you through a quick (and easy!) tutorial on how to monogram a coffee mug or tumbler. And the best-part—it’s completely dishwasher safe! I chose this project because in my following and interaction with 1,918 Miles, I’ve learned how much these sisters love their coffee! Now, I can’t say I can relate, as I don’t drink coffee myself, but I do love a mean cup of foamy hot chocolate. Can you say real chocolate shavings and made over a stove, please?? And anyway, all this snow in Texas, yes Texas, has me feeling nostalgic for my hometown and missing the days when I could curl up with a warm mug and a book while the Colorado snow did its thing. Beggars can’t be choosers though, in 2 weeks I’m heading to the Sunshine State and if it snows there, I’ll start playing the lottery. So thank you Texas for being so gracious as to send me off on a good note and for giving me one last piece of a winter wonderland.
Everywhere you look things are being monogrammed. It’s one of the most popular ways to personalize your stuff. I’ve always been a fan of monograms and for some reason have always taken pride in the monogrammed A. It’s so pretty to me! This DIY project is definitely at beginner level, and because it only requires 3 supplies (and an oven) it’s pretty inexpensive as well. I got all the supplies at Michaels, and was able to use a 40% off coupon off the entire purchase. If you don’t already know the trick, Michaels always has a weekly coupon. You can pull this up by googling Michael’s Weekly Ad Coupon, and it should pull it up. Please tell me you don’t buy craft supplies at full-price!

Supplies:
Oil-based Sharpie pant pens
white mug or tumbler
Monogram scrapbook stickers

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.

Place sticker on mug or tumbler.

Paint around the sticker. I chose to just do dots. If you make a mistake, you can use rubbing alcohol to touch up.

Remove sticker. Do any more touch-ups before placing in the oven.
Place mug or tumbler in baking dish and bake for 30 minutes.

After the 30 minutes, I turned off the oven and let it sit in the oven for another hour or so afterward. This ensures it bakes onto the mug properly.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have fun making your own monogrammed mugs! And thank again 1,918 Miles for letting me guest post!
Xx, Al
