I haven't been this excited about Friday since last Friday

This is definitely a more laid-back, casual office look but one that could also easily transition from work to a night out!  I am really not a fan of the 'Tribal' look that is so popular right now but I loved this maxi dress and I felt like the tribal elements were subtle enough that it wouldn't bother me.  The sequins provide great texture to an otherwise simple navy maxi dress, and the side slits keep it interesting (and keep you cool in the summer months).

I simply added a black cardigan over the dress to wear it to work, and then simple grey ballet flats to complete the look.  The dress looks great with heels, but since the slits go a bit above my knees I felt that heels made it a bit less office appropriate.

I loved this outfit with a messy side-braid and a simple rhinestone head band; the head band added the perfect compliment to the dress.  Since the dress has plenty of sparkle I didn't add any jewelry.  I know my braid is not nearly Elsa-worthy but I think I would need more hair for that to happen.

Frizzy hair, I do care

Living in Houston is like being in a constant sauna.  It could be 77 degrees outside but it feels like 100 just from all of the humidity.  You check the weather before you leave the house, it's in the mid-high 70's, you think it's gonna be a pretty nice day, and then you walk outside... It feels like the air is choking you!  But, even with all that loveliness I'll take the heat & humidity over the cold any day.  Yes, the cold does bother me anyway, haha.  What is the worst part though is my hairs reaction, it frizzes up to a messy and unattractive mess.  This is why I can't cut my hair too short (and why it's almost always in a bun!) cause it'll start to look like an afro on these particularly humid days.  First world problems, am I right?

Got any tips for keeping humidity at bay or for frizzy hair?  We'd love to hear them, just comment below!  Happy weekend all!

Loving Him was Red

I absolutely love bold colours.  Although I love how classic and clean the combo of black and white is, I just prefer to have some colour thrown into the mix as well.  Any colour can be paired with black and white.  I personally have always loved red.  It's the color of energy and passion, and if you know me well you know that I am always energetic and always passionate about whatever I am doing.  When in doubt, wear red.  Always wear red.
Also, there will be more office/work related outfits now that I can branch out from the 6 skirts I own and had to utilize during Lent.  I hope everyone has a great Friday - happy weekend!

Lip Gloss Love

I'm not much of a makeup girl, on the days that I do wear makeup it's typically only foundation & mascara.  One thing I don't go without though is ESO Lip Balm  & this Moxie Lip Gloss from Bare Minerals.  My sister gifted it to me as a "new mom" gift, it was in the One Hot Momma makeup bag and it's been one of my favorite makeup products since!  Actually, everything that came in that makeup bag quickly became favorites of mine, but the lip gloss is something I can't go without.  If you've been on the lookout for a subtle & beautiful lip gloss I highly recommend this one!

P.S.
This adorable lace top is 40% Off at Loft right now! Win-win.

A Touch of Lace

I have always been a fan of wearing pink (and not just on Wednesday).  I especially love pale and pastel pink colours, so I could not resist picking up this beautiful maxi dress last year.  It works well for any time of the year and the forgiving cut of the dress works on any body type!  A wide-stitch lace crop top was the perfect way to change up the 'plainness' of the dress and add some interesting flair!  This was from another professional photo shoot with my good friend Bethany over at Bethany Bown Photography.  She is a wonderfully talented photographer and does such an incredible job with every shoot!

It was a super breezy fall day, but Bethany wanted the wind so it all worked out.

When in Doubt, Just Add Glitter

I don't know why but I am suddenly in love with all things coral.  It just goes so well with so many different colors and patterns, especially navy (as shown here).  And what girl doesn't love a great (and classy!) pencil skirt?
I am trying hard to keep up with the "Skirts for Lent" challenge that my sisters started.  So, in keeping with that challenge, here is another office-worthy outfit that is both professional and cute!

You could wear the top tucked into the skirt or not.  I wore it un-tucked because this particular pencil skirt doesn't sit on my natural waist.

Glittery heels.  Because you should always leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

Fashion Friday!

"Elegance is not about being noticed, it's about being remembered."

I decided to do a non-work related fashion post today!  It's also not a winter fashion post, but it did suddenly get warm here again.

*Credit for this fantastic photo shoot goes to my wonderful friend Bethany!  I was fortunate to be a model in one of her photo shoots a while back.  Be sure to check out her photography page and blog at: BethanyBownPhotography !

Happy Friday!

With our current temperatures hovering somewhere between 20-83 degrees (Seriously.  This weather needs to get its act together), it's hard to ever plan what to wear for work.  But my mint leggings are always a good option for a casual Friday look!  They are so versatile and they pair with just about anything, making them one of my go-to work options.  Leopard-printed flats add the perfect little touch of flair to any outfit (and they look especially cute with the mint colour!).
 Happy Friday, everyone!

Fashion Friday: sketch edition

Hello all!  We decided to try something a little different for this post; all of these sketches were done by the sis in Houston who, in her rare spare time, enjoys combining her love for art & fashion in these simple stick figure sketches.  We think it's a perfect post for this Fashion Friday!  Enjoy & happy weekend all!

Here we are in stick figure form!

Fashion Friday

Christmas may be over but red is always in season, especially around February!  This was definitely a more "comfy" outfit (we all know that maxi skirts are just crotch-less yoga pants) but still professional enough for the office.
And wavy hair just makes the day more fun!

Warm sweaters & flare jeans

Just got back from visiting one of the sisters in CO. and it's crazy to think that the weather here in Houston was the same as in Denver a couple days ago!  Texas was really upping it's winter game. I'm gonna enjoy the cold for as long as it lasts though because I know that all too soon those 100 degree days will be back & I'm not sure I'm ready for them...

P.S.
American Eagle jeans will be my favorite jeans forever & always.  Like, I'm gonna be 40 and still buying them from there. No shame.

Floral & fall

The weather here in Houston, TX has gotten much more fall like but still not cold enough for sweaters & boots, sigh.  Although I know that once it does get cold I'm gonna want this warmish weather back... The grass is always greener, right?
